Customer credit ledger to track udhaar and payments
vkRetA connects invoices and received payments in a customer ledger. Payments are allocated to the oldest outstanding invoices first, while the original payment remains visible as its own transaction.

Know what each customer owes
The customer directory summarises total purchases, payments, outstanding amounts and overdue balances. Opening a customer reveals the underlying transactions rather than presenting a total with no explanation.
Each invoice shows its bill amount, allocated payment, remaining invoice balance and payment status. The running account balance remains a separate value because it answers a different question.
Allocate payments consistently
When a payment is recorded, vkRetA applies it to the oldest unpaid invoice first. A payment can finish one invoice and continue to the next, and an invoice can receive money from more than one payment.
The payment row is retained as evidence of money received. Allocation records connect payment IDs, invoice IDs, allocated amounts and dates without replacing the financial transaction that actually occurred.
Share bounded customer statements
Merchants can review and export a selected statement period of up to 90 days. Preset ranges make common reviews faster, while older periods can be selected as another bounded range.
- FIFO payment allocation
- Invoice-level paid and balance amounts
- 90-day statement windows
- WhatsApp payment-reminder support
How the credit ledger works in vkRetA
The credit ledger replaces the udhaar notebook with records that add up on their own. It is part of vkRetA Pro.
Create a pay-later bill
When a customer will pay later, create the bill as Pay later / credit and choose a due date. The bill is recorded against that customer with its full amount outstanding.
Record payments as they come in
Record each payment with its method: cash, UPI, bank transfer, card, cheque or other. vkRetA records the payment; it does not collect the money for you.
Let vkRetA allocate the payment
The payment is applied to the oldest unpaid bill first. If it is larger than that bill, the remainder moves on to the next one.
Watch what is overdue
The customer list shows outstanding and overdue amounts, and outstanding balances are grouped by age: current, 1-30, 31-60, 61-90 and over 90 days.
Share a statement and a reminder
Download a PDF statement for a period of up to 90 days, or open a prepared WhatsApp reminder with the outstanding amount, which you review and send yourself.
Key credit ledger capabilities
Pay-later bills with due dates
Bills that are not paid at the counter stay open with a due date instead of being forgotten.
Oldest-first allocation
Payments settle the oldest outstanding bills first, the same way most businesses already think about udhaar.
Separate payment records
A payment stays visible as its own transaction even after it has been split across several bills.
Ageing view
Outstanding amounts grouped by how long they have been due, so follow-up starts with the oldest money.
PDF customer statements
A dated statement for a chosen period, ready to share when a customer asks what they owe.

Frequently asked questions
Are payment and invoice balances the same?
No. An invoice balance is the amount due on one bill. The running balance represents the customer's account after all relevant charges and payments.
Can one payment cover multiple invoices?
Yes. vkRetA can finish the oldest invoice and carry the remaining payment to the next outstanding invoice.
Is customer credit available on every plan?
Credit-ledger payment recording is a Pro capability. The current pricing page provides the authoritative plan limits.
Which payment methods can I record against a customer's credit?
You can record payments made by cash, UPI, bank transfer, card, cheque or another method. vkRetA records the payment against the customer's bills; it does not process the payment itself.
Can I set a due date on a credit bill?
Yes. A pay-later bill can carry a due date, and the customer list then shows overdue amounts and groups outstanding balances by how long they have been due.
What happens to my credit records if Pro ends?
Nothing is deleted when a plan ends. Credit-ledger payment recording is a Pro feature, so recording new credit payments needs an active Pro plan, but the existing bills and customer records stay in your workspace.
